Yahoo! Messenger: XP Firewall Block WebCam?

Feel boring when you can’t view webcam? Here is a trip from Yahoo! Help Center that help you to solve your problem. Normally, If you are running Windows XP, the Built-In Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) maybe enable without your knowledge. This is the default setting of Windows to protect your PC from hacking. However, of course, this default setting may block you from running some applications you might need to use like Viewing WebCam in Yahoo! Messenger. Anyway, there is always a way to solve the problem. Below are the steps to enable you to veiw WebCam by instructing you to ensure that the correct ports are opened.

  1. Click Start, Settings, and select Control Panel.
  2. Double click on the Network Connections icon.
  3. Right click the connection that you use to connect to the Internet, and then click on Properties.
  4. On the Advanced tab, uncheck the box Protect my computer… if you would like to disable the firewall. If you like to only open the webcam ports, check the box and continue with the remaining steps.
  5. Click the Settings button.
  6. Click the Add button.
  7. Under Description… fill in Yahoo! Webcam. Under Name or IP… fill in 127.0.0.1. Under both External Port and Internal Port fill in 5100. Check the button TCP.
  8. Click OK to close all opened dialog boxes.

Work done! I guess now You can view webcam in Yahoo! Messenger.
