Vuthy Monirath, a PHD student at Tokyo’s Chiba University, has been elected as a new president of Cambodian Students Association in Japan (CSAJ) for year 2007. The election was held online on January 14. The mandate is one year.

The departing and 2007 presidents, together eight people, from four main regions including Chubu, Kansai, Kyushu and Kanto cast their votes. Seven of them voted in favor of the presidency, more than the majority needed to take the office. One voted against it.

The right to elect CSAJ president is, under the joint declaration and the statute signed by all the regional presidents, given to the presidents of the four regions, who are elected to represent the Cambodian students in their own regions.

The main goals of CSAJ include, but not limited to, bringing together Cambodian students as well as those working in Japan and communicating messages about any activity by the students from one region to another.

The work with the association is voluntary.
