Sihanoukville. Photo from Treknature.ComSihanoukville governor has allegedly issued a notice to evict 105 families who have been living on 17 hectares of land since 1985 in Sangkat Commune Number 4, Metapheap district, Sihanouk Ville, Cambodia’s coastal city, reported Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) in its article entitled Sihanouk Vill governor orders 105 families to leave their homes within 7 days.

The notice bearing number 0026 came on 19 January 2007.

Clashes also happened between the police forces and the 105 families, reported AHCR.

“ The villagers have been living and cultivating that land since 1985 at which time there was only 53 families,” according to AHRC.

“ The Ministry of Interior also acknowledged and registered the said land into village and commune structure,” continued the report, “ While all the families have a member family book, they have never received land ownership from the government despite their repeated requests since 1985.”

AHRC accused Governor Say Hak of using “ violence against a possessor in good faith of an immovable property,” which is against article 253 of the Land Law 2001.

It also called on two military police officers in Sihanoukville to assume responsibility for the use of violence by the police forces against the residents.
