Since Khmer Unicode has been introduced, not a fews Cambodian IT enthusiast have tried it out. The most well-know application is Khmer Unicode Keyboard Layout, especially NiDA Standard Khmer Unicode. Some may used to try others Khmer Unicode based-Application such as OpenOffice and Linux (Khmer Version). All of them were pretty good.

Now let’s me introduce you new 2 interested applications, Khmer Conversion and Khmer Line Breaking, from PAN Localization Cambodia of IDRC. They were so useful for those people using Khmer Unicode.

What is Khmer Conversion? Khmer Unicode conversion was embaded in Microsoft Office. Also you can convert from Limon, ABC, Khek, MF font family.

What is Khmer Line Breaking? By recognizing Khmer words, this application will help users to break space (zero-space) between the word so that you don’t need to care about aligning your text during typing.

Last year, my friend upgraded his GirlFriend 3.1 to GirlFriendPlus 1.0 (marketing name: Fiancée 1.0). Recently he upgraded Fiancée 1.0 to Wife 1.0 and it’s a memory hogger, it has taken all his space; and Wife1.0 must be running before he can do anything. Although he did not ask for it, Wife 1.0 came with Plug-Ins such as MotherInLaw and BrotherInLaw.

• A “ Don’t remind me again” button
• Minimize button
• Shutdown feature
• An install shield feature so that Girlfriend 4.0 can be completely uninstalled if so desired (so you don’t lose cache and other objects)

I tried running Girlfriend 2.0 with girlfriend 1.0 still installed, they tried using the same i/o port and conflicted. Then I tried to uninstall Girlfriend 1.0 but it didn’t have an uninstall program. I tried to uninstall it by hand, but it put files in my system directory. Another thing that sucks in all versions of girlfriend that I’ve used is that it is totally “ object orientated” and only supported hardware with gold plated contacts.

Bug Warning: Wife 1.0 has an undocumented bug. If you try to install Mistress 1.1 before uninstalling Wife 1.0, Wife 1.0 will delete MSMoney files before doing the uninstall itself. Then Mistress 1.1 will refuse to install, claiming insufficient resources.

Cambodia plan to open a limited stock market in 2009. The draft legislation on corporate bonds is currently under process of finalizing during the interview with Prime Minister Hun Sen at a Financial Sector Development Conference on Thursday.When talking about the important of financial market, Prime Minister Hun Sen said “ The introduction of a financial market is very important. It can help to mobilize financial resources for long term investment in social, economic and infrastructure projects in Cambodia.”

According to the International Monetary Fund, Cambodia’s finance sector is growing gradually. A number of new banks were established in the country and bank loans and deposits are increasing by around 40 percent.

Cambodia also secured a B+ rating for long-term foreign and local currency government notes from Standard & Poor’s.  Standard & Poor’s also awarded a short-term foreign and local currency rating of B. Moody’s assigned a foreign currency notes ceiling of B1, a foreign-currency ceiling for bank deposits of B3, and a local currency notes ceiling and a local currency deposit ceiling of Ba1.

AAA and AA:  High credit-quality investment grade
AA and BBB:  Medium credit-quality investment grade
BB, B, CCC, CC, C: Low credit-quality (non-investment grade), or ” junk bonds“

Below is the instruction to configure YPOPS with MS Outlook 2003:

1. Select Tools -> Email accounts from the main menu
2. Select Add a new email account and click on Next
3. Select POP3 as the Server Type. Click Next
4. Enter your username and full Yahoo! email address under ‘User Information’
5. Enter your Yahoo! Login id and password under ‘Logon Information’
6. Enter ‘127.0.0.1′ as your Incoming mail server
7. Enter ‘127.0.0.1′ as the SMTP server as your outgoing mail server
8. Click on the More Settings button and select the Advanced tab
9. Increase the Server Timeout to ‘Long’ (10 minutes)
10. Select the Outgoing Server tab
11. Enable “ My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication” . Select “ Use same settings as my incoming mail server” .
12. Click Ok to close the More Settings dialog
13. Click Next and then Finish

Virtual memory is created using a special file called a swap file or paging file. Here the operating system will write the least recently used data in the memory to free memory for other programs. In case you think you can improve your system’s performance by having a large page file, think again.

The speed of the memory is much, much higher than the speed of a hard disk, so as long as you use the paging file, there will always be performance degradation. However, if you have more than 256MB of RAM, use this tweak to considerably improve your performance. The main idea is to use all the memory before using the paging file.

1. Go to Start -> Run.

2. Type msconfig and click OK.

3. Click on the System.ini tab.

4. Expand the 386enh tab.

5. Click on new then in the blank box type ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1.

6. Click OK, then restart your computer for the setting to take effect.
