Pocket PC Phone as Webcam or Surveillance Camera
Why we have to spend additional money for webcam or surveillance camera when we can take advantage of this function from camera of our Pocket PC Phone? I used to post an article about the Mobile Phone as Webcam.
Let’s me introduce a new application, called WebCamera Plus, that can turn your Pocket PC Phone (O2, Qtek, T-Mobile, E-ten, …) into a webcam or surveillance camera. WebCamera Plus allows using mobile device as external camera for computer. Connection can be established using USB, Bluetooth/Wi-Fi, GPRS/EDGE/3G, LAN. Sound interesting, isn’t? Personally, of course, it is. I have tried it and found out that it worked like a champ. It’s a cool application and incredible.
WebCamera Plus key features:
- Transforms your PDA or Smartphone to high-resolution web-camera.
- Can work through any connection: USB ActiveSync, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPRS, 3G, LAN.
- Compatible with almost all modern Smartphones and PDAs.
- Can be used as web-camera in many programs: Skype, MSN Messager, Yahoo Messager, Virtual Dub and many others.
- Can capture device screen and transmit video to Desktop PC.

How to:
1. ActiveSync Connection
You can use USB or Bluetooth for ActiveSync connection.
- On desktop PC start video capture program, and select “ WebCamera Plus” video device.
- After few seconds you should see picture from mobile device camera on desktop PC.
- To disconnect press left soft-key or center of joystick on mobile device.
2. Network Connection (without ActiveSync)
You can use Wi-Fi, Bluetooth (PAN-profile), GPRS/EDGE/3G or LAN for network connection.
- Establish network connection between mobile device and desktop computer.
- In WebCamera Plus open “ Settings” dialog (Menu->Settings) and reset “ Auto detect IP” flag.
- Enter network address of desktop PC in “ IP-address” field.
- On desktop PC start video capture program (Windows Movie Maker for example). In video capture program select “ WebCamera Plus” video device.
- To begin connection press left soft-key (“ Start” ) or center of joystick on mobile device.
- After few seconds you should see picture from mobile device camera on desktop PC.
- To disconnect press left soft-key or center of joystick on mobile device.

downloaded it, worked just as described, but i was hoping i would be able to use this on youtube but no can do. Is there any way to get rid of the time limit?

Looks fine. Tested on a MDA Compact III (using Live Messenger at the desktop side) and works fine via ActiveSync connection.
But $19,90 (14,90 Euro) …? A “ real” webcam isn’t much more expensive? Where is the advantage? Is it allowed to use the software on more than one device? And if yes, how many devices can I use with one license?
